This 2025 calendar showcases twelve unique artworks by Todd Couper, a prominent contemporary Māori artist with roots in Rongomaiwahine and Ngāti Kahungunu. Each image offers a glimpse into Todd's inventive spirit and the meticulousness of his artistic practice.

Based in the Bay of Plenty, Todd has always been deeply interested in art, especially drawn to the traditional carvings and kowhaiwhai patterns found in wharenui (meeting houses). His passion for art was nurtured at Te Aute College in Central Hawkes Bay, where he began his formal education in 1987. Encouraged by a teacher, he pursued a Diploma of Art, Craft, and Design Māori at Waiariki Polytechnic in Rotorua, graduating in 1995.

After his studies, Todd collaborated with Roi Toia, who was his carving tutor during his final year at Waiariki. Together, they developed their careers as full-time artists over seventeen years, with their works now featured in international collections.

In 2012, Todd spent a year in Brisbane, Australia, as an 'Artist in Residence' at the Southbank Institute of Technology. Having returned to New Zealand, Todd continues to draw inspiration from whakairo, evolving his craft and generating new pieces.
