These unique cups offer a trip down memory lane, evoking fond memories of a different era in New Zealand television for those who remember the days of signing off with Goodnight Kiwi. They're a charming way to keep a piece of Kiwi nostalgia close in our daily lives, blending a love for our cultural heritage with a commitment to environmental sustainability.
 
 
Goodnight Kiwi" is a cherished part of New Zealand's television history, symbolizing the end of the broadcast day in an era before 24-hour TV. This animated short, created by Sam Harvey, features a Kiwi who wraps up the day at a TV station. Every night, this Kiwi would turn off the lights, put out the milk, and ascend to a satellite dish, where it cozily settled down to sleep with a feline companion, The Cat. This endearing routine became a nightly ritual and a beloved memory for many New Zealanders.
The quirkiness of a nocturnal bird like the Kiwi choosing to sleep at night, and the unlikely companionship with a cat, added to its charm. Accompanying this animation was the tune of 'Hine e Hine', a traditional Māori lullaby, which further rooted the animation in New Zealand’s cultural heritage.
