Kathryn Furniss is a self-taught New Zealand artist, based in Nelson. Born in England and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand, she began painting around ten years ago, influenced by a creative upbringing. Working primarily in acrylic and ink, Kathryn builds layered compositions rich in colour and texture. Her work is inspired by the natural world, Pacific landscapes, and native birdlife, often exploring emotion, story, and connection. Kathryn has exhibited her work throughout New Zealand and internationally.  Native birds featured in Kathryn’s work include:  Huia (now extinct), Tui, Kotare-Kingfisher, Kaka
